In June 2016, the Sur de Texas natural gas pipeline project was awarded to TransCanada in partnership with IEnova, a Mexican infrastructure company. Running almost entirely under the Gulf of Mexico, once completed, this 800 km (497 mile) long pipeline will deliver clean-burning natural gas to families and businesses in the state of Veracruz.

The Sur de Texas Pipeline will supply natural gas generation plants in Tamaulipas and Veracruz, providing families and businesses with a stable source of the electricity they need.
When complete, the line, from the United States to Mexico, will transport natural gas through an underwater route that starts in the Gulf of Mexico, near Brownsville, Texas, ending in Tuxpan, Veracruz.
