Our significant power experience and asset base enables us to seize new opportunities and deliver value to clients in a changing energy environment.
TransCanada has invested significantly in power assets in Alberta since 2001. These Alberta assets include 5 wholly and partially owned power plants with more than 2,000 megawatts of generation capacity. Asset ownership is a TransCanada advantage as it creates a package of power products that can be customized to meet client's requirements.
With our own plants and power purchase arrangements backing physical sales, we provide power at a fixed price from one-month to multi-year contracts. We offer a wide array of financial tools to secure the price of your power, reducing the risk of adverse price movements. We also provide load following service to meet your variable electricity consumption.
TransCanada offers a number of power products and services for large commercial, industrial, and oil and gas customers.
Physical and financial fixed price hedges to optimize your energy needs hourly, daily, and multi-year, including tailored energy solutions for up to 10 years.
Load following products to provide a fixed price for variable hourly, daily or monthly load.
Financial products such as ability to manage dispatchable or peak load requirements; offer virtual Cogeneration Tolling Agreements (indexing the price of electricity to the price of natural gas); and offer the ability to swap (physical or financial) natural gas for megawatt hours (MWh).
Invoicing and Billing services - TransCanada will manage your wires and distribution costs and power purchases.
TransCanada owns, controls or is developing approximately 10,800 megawatts of power generation.
