Proposed Vaughan Mainline Expansion Project
TransCanada is proposing to construct, own and operate a new natural gas transmission pipeline in the City of Vaughan in order to continue to provide homes, businesses, schools and hospitals in Ontario and Eastern Canada with a safe and reliable source of natural gas.
The project is being proposed to address customer demand for natural gas in Ontario and Eastern Canada markets. The proposed project will improve access to new natural gas supplies from the U.S. Northeast.
The Vaughan Mainline Expansion (VME) Project will be integrated into TransCanada’s existing Canadian Mainline system in the City of Vaughan upon completion. The proposed project will include the construction of approximately 12 kilometres of 42-inch diameter pipe for the purpose of transporting natural gas.
In addition to improved access to natural gas, the project will also provide financial benefits to the City of Vaughan through local spending during construction and through annual property tax payments and community partnerships and investments.
TransCanada filed its Application for approval of the VME Project with the National Energy Board (NEB) on November 10, 2015. The proposed route for this pipeline reflects the outcomes of stakeholder and Aboriginal engagement, environmental assessment and engineering studies.
The VME Project Application is available for public viewing on the NEB’s website. A hard copy and electronic copy of the Application is also available in English at the following location:
