Pipelines are the safest method of transporting the huge volumes of natural gas that must be moved throughout North America everyday. To keep our system safe, we rely on our neighbours and contractors to be our partners in safety. They are often the first lines of defence when it comes to ensuring our pipeline stays safe and reliable.

TransCanada's facilities and pipelines are marked with signs at road, rail and river crossings. Please take note of the signs in your area.

Take note of TransCanada's pipeline markers in your area. Be aware of the regulatory requirements by the Alberta Energy & Utilities Board or the National Energy Board in Canada if you're working on or near the TransCanada Alberta, Canadian Mainline, Foothills or the TransQuébec Maritimes pipeline systems.

In the United States, be aware of the regulatory requirements under the Department of Transportation, if you're working on or near TransCanada's Gas Transmission Northwest, North Baja or Portland Natural Gas Transmission Systems.

Remember to always call before you dig and to report any suspicious activities to TransCanada.

Our extensive network of pipe, meter and compressor stations transport sweet, non-toxic natural gas. Our pipelines operate at a high pressure and range in diameter from four to 48 inches.

The natural gas we transport is colourless, odourless and will travel into the atmosphere because it's lighter than air. However, it is flammable and can be explosive if allowed to collect in an enclosed space. Read our natural gas Material Safety Data Sheet for more information about its properties.
