Our Values in Action

Our Values in Action showcase the application of our values in the field and the office. These are demonstrative examples of how our employees performed their roles responsibly throughout the year.

Discovering What Matters to the Local Community

In 2006, TransCanada continued with environmental and wind studies in Maine related to the Kibby Wind Power Project. This project proposes to locate a wind farm along Kibby Mountain and Kibby Range in the Boundary Mountains of Maine. The Kibby Wind Power Project would be capable of producing about 132 megawatts of electricity. In addition to 44 wind turbines, power collection lines and access roads, the project would include an electric transmission line to connect power generated by the turbines to the existing transmission grid.

While conducting the 2006 studies, our employees and consultants used local hotels and restaurants, purchased equipment locally where possible, and hired local people to oversee and maintain equipment. Through these studies and ongoing local dialogue, we came to understand the issues that matter most to the people who live in the town of Eustis/Stratton – the stakeholders who could be most impacted by the proposed project.

Since the project was announced, TransCanada has reached out to stakeholders in a variety of ways. In addition to numerous stakeholder meetings in 2006, TransCanada hosted a public open house on October 18 at the Eustis/Stratton Community Building to formally introduce the project, and TransCanada, to interested stakeholders.

More than 50 people participated and learned about the proposed project and wind power in general. Most attendees were supportive of the project or neutral. Those who were opposed showed a willingness to discuss matters with members of the project team. All attendees provided the project team with valuable insight in to the community.
