Energy is the focus of our business and an essential ingredient in our community investment efforts. TransCanada's program goes beyond investing dollars into the communities where we live, work and conduct our business.
We develop meaningful partnerships with non-profit organizations to sustain ongoing quality of life improvements. Our partners share our belief that learning is key to improving lives, increasing hope and creating new beginnings.
Areas of focus
Education and lifelong learning are at the core of our program that includes five focus areas: education, health, human services, environment, and civic investment.
TransCanada has five ways of contributing to its communities:
- We provide financial support for not-for-profit projects or programs that meet our funding guidelines.
- Through our Gifts In-Kind program, we assist not-for-profit organizations with furniture, vehicle and computer needs.
- We partner with our employees to support a variety of community agencies through our United Way contributions, a partnership that has been recognized with the Friends of the United Way award and the Thanks a Million national award.
- We support charitable organizations important to our employees and retirees through the Matching Gifts program, and
- We support employee volunteerism through Days of Caring initiatives.
TransCanada invests in our communities because it makes good sense - both from a business and a human perspective. Our employees think it's important too. We all benefit from living and working in healthy, vibrant communities.

Employee/retiree Matching Gift program
TransCanada's Matching Gifts program is designed to encourage employee and retiree donations to charities, to increase the value of actual contributions and to help direct our corporate giving to reflect the interests and concerns of our employees and retirees.
The company will match dollar-for-dollar personal contributions to charitable organizations, up to a maximum of $1,000 per employee/retiree each year (minimum $50). The program ensures our corporate giving directly reflects the interests and concerns of our employees and retirees.
Community Investment is the sole arbiter of eligibility for purposes of the Matching Gifts program. The company reserves the right to suspend, change, revoke or terminate the program at any time.
Guidelines
- Full-time/part-time employees and retirees are eligible to apply for matching gifts.
- The company matches personal contributions of up to $1,000 per employee each year, with a minimum of $50 per request.
- To qualify, charitable organizations must have a charitable tax number and be non-religious in nature.
- Contributions must be actual donations - not merely pledges to donate - and must be made directly to the organization.
- Matching gift forms must be received before Nov. 15 of each calendar year to be eligible for a company match. Forms received after Nov. 15 will be carried over to the following year.
Matching Gifts will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the budget limit has been reached, subsequent requests will be deferred to the following year.

Gifts In-Kind
TransCanada connects with community needs in areas that are not solely limited to the granting of funds. The Gifts In-Kind program is designed to assist not-for-profit organizations with furniture and computer needs.
The Gifts In-Kind program is subject to availability of resources and is evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Computer Donations
TransCanada connects with communities in a variety of ways, including donations of useful computer equipment to eligible organizations.
Desktop and laptop computer equipment that no longer meet minimum operating standards set by TransCanada's IS department are eligible for donation. Network printers, cables, modems and tape drives may also be available.
Due to licensing considerations software is not donated. Recipients are responsible for any support and maintenance of donated equipment.
Please review our funding guidelines for eligibility.

Volunteers
TransCanada supports employee volunteerism through the United Way Days of Caring initiative. Employees interested in pursuing volunteer opportunities outside TransCanada do so through local volunteer organizations.
Our Partners
