Public Safety and Awareness

"Safety is a core value of TransCanada's - our Public Awareness Program educates people with the goal of eliminating incidents and protecting the public, environment and assets."
Don Wishart,  Executive Vice President, Operations and Engineering

TransCanada: Focused on Safety

TransCanada is aware that recent events have heightened public concern about pipeline safety. A fundamental principle for the company and the entire pipeline industry is the protection of the public from the effects of pipeline incidents.

The pipeline industry benefits from clear regulations and robust safety standards that have been in place for decades and that cover the life cycle of pipeline assets.

Safety is paramount in the construction, operation, and maintenance of TransCanada's 57,000 kilometres (35,500 miles) of underground natural gas and oil pipeline in North America. TransCanada employs industry best practices during construction and then follows a rigorous pipeline integrity management program to ensure the safety of the public and the protection of the environment.

TransCanada wants the affected public to know as much as possible about how underground utilities such as pipelines operate. An informed public complements TransCanada's efforts to ensure the safe operation of all its assets.
