Napanee Generating Station
TransCanada is in the preliminary stages of developing the proposed Napanee Generating Station (NGS), a 900 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fuelled electricity generating station. This proposed facility will be located on the existing Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Lennox Generating Station site in the County of Lennox and Addington near the Town of Napanee. The proposed facility will provide reliable on-demand power to Ontario homes, schools, institutions and businesses and help replace the province’s coal-fired generation.
TransCanada has been engaging with local stakeholders since October 2012, and has started conducting environmental studies in association with the proposed facility.
TransCanada will ensure that the proposed NGS is a safe and reliable facility and that we are a good neighbour to those living in the area. The facility’s gas turbine technology will minimize emissions to levels well below all regulatory requirements. TransCanada will also manage the effects of noise on our neighbours by ensuring that all major equipment is enclosed and that silencers and additional noise-reduction equipment are installed at the facility.
We believe that community and Aboriginal input results in better decision-making and our engagement effort will continue throughout the course of permitting, construction, and into operations.
