The
Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has awarded TransCanada a contract to own and operate a 683 megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in the town of Halton Hills, Ontario.
The Halton Hills Generating Station (HHGS) will use state-of-the-art low emissions technology and will meet high environmental standards in order to fulfill the OPA’s request for additional clean power generation.
The facility will have the capacity to generate enough power for approximately 600,000 homes and is anticipated to be in-service by the summer of 2010.
TransCanada has undertaken extensive consultation with local stakeholders and remains committed to open communication throughout the design, construction and operation stages of the project.
Environmental Assessment and Approvals
The Halton Hills Generating Station was subject to a Screening Level review under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. TransCanada has filed an Environmental Review Report (ERR) with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment which involved an increased level of scope and impact analysis than that required in a Screening Level review.
TransCanada retained SENES Consultants Limited in January 2006 to prepare an ERR for the Project. The draft ERR was completed and made available for public review in September 2006. The results of environmental studies and content of the ERR were the focus of TransCanada’s second Open House in October 2006.
For more information, please refer to the Notice of Completion . Please contact us if you would like to review the Final Environmental Review Report (ERR) and supporting documentation.
