Guadalajara Pipeline

In May of 2009, the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) awarded the Guadalajara Project to Energía Occidente de México, S. de R.L. de C.V. (EOM), a wholly owned TransCanada affiliate, to build, own and operate the pipeline with a 25-year gas transportation service contract. The in-service date for operation indicated in the contract is March 30, 2011. The Guadalajara Pipeline will traverse a route from a liquefied natural gas terminal under construction near Manzanillo on México's Pacific Coast to Guadalajara, the second largest city in México and a 6 km route from the LNG Terminal to the CFE CT Manzanillo power plant. EOM optimized the original pipeline route to approximately 300 kilometres to improve the safety, environmental impacts, and constructability of the pipeline.

The proposed Guadalajara Pipeline will have two segments. The first consists of approximately 6 kilometres of 24-inch-diameter pipeline capable of transporting 500 million cubic feet a day (MMcf/d) of natural gas from the Manzanillo liquefied natural gas re-gasification terminal (currently under construction) to an existing CFE power plant in Manzanillo.

The second segment will consist of 30-inch-diameter pipeline extending approximately 295 kilometres between the Manzanillo LNG terminal and an interconnection with Pemex Gas y Petroquímica Básica (PGPB). This second segment will be bi-directional (meaning the natural gas can flow south to north or north to south) and will be capable of transporting up to 320 MMcf/d of natural gas.

There will be two meter stations to measure the flow of gas: one at the CFE power plant in Manzanillo which will be built, owned, and operated by EOM; the other at the PGPB interconnection point which will be built by EOM, and after construction the ownership and operations of this station will be transferred to PGPB.  There will be no compressor stations on the pipeline.
