Portland Natural Gas Transmission System
The Portland Natural Gas Transmission system (PNGT) feeds industrial and electric-power generation needs in the northeastern United States by providing natural gas transportation services to gas utilities, paper mills and power plants in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.
The PNGT system is 474 km (295 mi.) in length, connecting from the Trans-Québec and Maritimes (TQM) pipeline at the Québec-New Hampshire border and continuing through New Hampshire, Maine and into Massachusetts, near Boston.
The Portland Natural Gas Transmission system is part of TransCanada's network of 60,000 km (37,000 miles) of wholly owned and 7,900 km (4,900 miles) of partially owned pipelines connecting major supply basins with major markets all across North America. TransCanada is one of the continent's largest providers of gas storage and related services with approximately 380 Bcf of storage capacity - that's the second largest in North America. In total, TransCanada delivers approximately 20 per cent of the natural gas consumed in North America each day.
TransCanada has a 61.7 per cent ownership stake in PNGT system.
