Coolidge Generating Station
TransCanada is currently constructing a 575 megawatt (MW) simple cycle, natural gas fired peaking power generation station in Coolidge in response to a request from utility provider, SRP.
The facility will provide enough electricity to power approximately 575,000 homes in the region.
We signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with SRP to secure 100 per cent of the output from the facility. The anticipated in-service date for the facility is May 2011. The project is designed to provide a quick response to 'peak' power demands. It will also provide reserve capacity and the ability to add power quickly to support power reliability in the region.
The generating station's address is:
859 E. Randolph Rd.
Coolidge, AZ 85228
Projects are subject to various internal and external approvals. Timelines are subject to change without notice.

TransCanada has a long and well-respected track record with regard to community partnering and social responsibility. On March 24, 2010 it was announced that TransCanada, through the 20 year power purchase agreement with SRP, has invested $175,000 to help fund the Central Arizona College "Promise for the Future" program. This innovative program aims to keep young people in school by offering four semesters of in-state tuition.
Beginning in September 2010, the investment will support 10 scholarships being given to students who graduate from a Pinal County high school with a 2.75 grade point average or better. Four of the scholarships will be available to students in the Randolph and Coolidge area while the remaining six scholarships will be distributed throughout Pinal County. An additional 10 scholarships will be awarded in 2011, four of which will be available to students in Randolph and Coolidge. In 2012 and onwards, a total of four scholarships will be given each year.
TransCanada encourages all students in Grade 8 to sign up for the "Promise for the Future" program and graduate with the 2.75 grade point average necessary to be eligible to receive a scholarship. TransCanada has also funded the City of Coolidge July 4th fireworks display in 2009, donated to the 'Against Abuse' program in Casa Grande, raised $3,300 through a fundraiser for the local United Way, and are a current member of the CAREDF organization

Among its environmental controls, TransCanada is using state of the art, low emission technology that meets or exceeds all environmental regulations at all times, including start-up activities. The design incorporates the use of clean burning natural gas, water injection nitrogen oxides reduction technology, and selective catalytic reduction equipment to reduce emissions.
The construction of the Coolidge Generating Station has employed hundreds of people and injected significant revenue into the local economy in the form of money spent on food, lodging, fuel, and other construction related services. During peak construction, 23 local residents were hired to work on the project.
Operation and maintenance of the facility will employ 13 people on a permanent basis. The following full time positions are still available:
