project overview
TransCanada is proposing a natural gas pipeline project from the U.S. Rockies supply basins to markets in the U.S. Midwest. The pipeline is being developed in response to forecast supply growth in the U.S. Rockies gas basins that is anticipated to exceed existing Rockies export transportation capacity in the 2010 to 2012 timeframe.
The proposed Pathfinder Gas Pipeline project is an approximate 500-mile (800-kilometre), 42-inch natural gas pipeline that will move gas northeastward from the Rockies connecting Wamsutter, Wyoming to the Northern Border Pipeline Company system for delivery into the Ventura and Chicago area markets. The project will include an option for an approximate 140-mile (225-kilometre) pipeline connecting Meeker, Colorado to Wamsutter. The initial capacity for the pipeline is 1.2 Bcf/d, with an ultimate capacity of 2.0 Bcf/d. The expected in service date is late 2010.
To meet further growth in Rockies gas supply, a future phase is proposed to extend the proposed Pathfinder pipeline project approximately 275 miles (440 kilometres) from the Northern Border Pipeline to Noyes, Minnesota, where gas can be shipped to Eastern markets or storage facilities using the Great Lakes Gas Transmission system and TransCanada’s Canadian Mainline system. This future extension could be in service as early as the fourth quarter of 2011.
commercial
Parties interested in securing capacity on the pipeline are invited to participate in a binding open season. TransCanada has extended the open season to 4 p.m. Mountain time, May 30, 2008. Amendments to the Open Season Guidelines reflecting the revised timelines are posted below.
TransCanada will accept binding bids from parties for firm natural gas transportation capacity from Meeker and from Wamsutter to Northern Border Pipeline Company. TransCanada also is seeking non-binding expressions of interests for the future 275-mile (440-kilometre) extension of the proposed Pathfinder Pipeline project to connect from the Northern Border Pipeline Company to Noyes, Minnesota and Emerson, Manitoba.

status & proposed timeline
If sufficient support for the proposed Pathfinder Pipeline project is obtained through the binding open season process, we will proceed with the necessary regulatory applications. Input from stakeholders will be sought through the regulatory process, as well as through an extensive engagement process.
2007
- Initiated producer and shipper discussions
- Established project team and developed initial project schedule

- Anticipate pipeline in-service by fourth quarter 2010
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & CONSULTATION
We recognize the importance of incorporating public input into our project plans. We believe that through consultation with landowners, Native American tribes, communities and other interested stakeholders, we can address questions and concerns and integrate important public input into our activities.
We share project information and gather input throughout the planning phase and incorporate feedback into our project design and implementation as appropriate. More information regarding energy regulations and how stakeholders may become involved in this process is available on FERC’s website.
Input from stakeholders will be sought through the regulatory process, as well as an extensive engagement process. Check back here for more information in the coming weeks and months.
