For more than five decades, TransCanada has been a pioneer in
leading-edge gas transmission technology. Composite Reinforced Line Pipe (CRLP) technology is yet another way we are advancing the industry.
 |
| Seven joints of 40 foot, 48 inch outside diameter CRLP were installed into the Saratoga section of TransCanada's Western Alberta Mainline Expansion in September 2002. |
Developed by NCF Industries, Inc. of California and licensed to TransCanada, our proprietary technology combines fibreglass and resin into a high-performance composite, which is then used to reinforce a conventional steel liner.
The resulting products, Composite Reinforced Line Pipe (CRLP) and Gas Transport Modules (GTMs), boast the strength and reliability of comparable all-steel products, while simply using less steel. In many cases, less steel translates into greater economy.
TransCanada is currently investigating and developing various pilot and commercial projects. Our goal is to market sub-licenses to manufacture our composite products, and sub-licenses for use of the technology.
