TransCanada named to Dow Jones index for fourth year
TransCanada is a member of both the World and North American Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). This marks the fourth year in a row we've been named to the DJSI World, and we're pleased to be included as one of the first companies of the DJSI North America, launched in September 2005.
The DJSI World is a global index that tracks the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies. It's made up of the top 10 per cent of the 2,500 biggest companies in the Dow Jones World Index in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. This year, TransCanada is one of 12 Canadian companies on the index.
The DJSI North America is a similar index made up of North American companies. The top 20 per cent in each sector out of the biggest 600 North American companies are selected as index members.
"Being named a member of the DJSI validates our efforts, at all levels of the company, to do the right thing by our stakeholders," says Hal Kvisle, CEO. "The long-term sustainability of our company rests not only on our ability to deliver strong operating and financial results, but also on our respect for the environment, our relationships with employees and neighbours, and our integrity in our business dealings."
The selection of companies for the indexes is based on a rigorous assessment of more than 50 broad performance criteria. Leading companies are those who set best practices for sustainability in their business strategies, approach to innovation, governance, returns to shareholders and interaction with employees and other stakeholders.
