Composite Reinforced Line Pipe (CRLP)

In the case of Composite Reinforced Line Pipe (CRLP), the fibreglass composite is applied to conventional steel line pipe. The composite wrap allows for equivalent performance of high-strength steel (i.e. up to 3,600 psi operating pressure) with a thinner, lower-strength, steel wall, and improved fracture control and arrest characteristics.

A thinner steel wall means lower handling costs due to less weight, and reduced welding time and cost due to the smaller weld area. Additionally, the use of a lower-strength steel means that the raw materials are more available, at less cost, from North American steel mills.

The characteristics of CRLP make it an ideal choice for large diameter applications requiring high through-put, high pressure, reliability, and general high strength.
