Cartier Wind Energy Inc. was awarded six projects by Hydro-Québec Distribution representing a total of 740 Megawatts (MW) in October 2004.

The six projects are distributed in various communities of the administrative region of Gaspesie, Iles-de-la-Madeleine and the Regional County Municipality of Matane.

These projects represent an investment of more than $1.1 billion and will be commissioned beginning in 2006 and continue up to 2012. The projects are:

  • Baie-des-Sables (109.5 MW) [1.6 MB .pdf] – On November 21, 2006, the Baie-des-Sables wind farm went into commercial in-service and began delivering electricity under the 20-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec Distribution.
  • Anse-à-Valleau (100.5 MW) – On November 10, 2007, the Anse-à-Valleau wind farm went into commercial in-service and began delivering electricity under the 20-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec Distribution.
  • Carleton (109.5 MW) – Construction began in November 2007.
  • Les Méchins (150 MW)
  • Montagne-Sèche (58.5 MW)
  • Gros-Morne I and II (211.5 MW)

The projects’ total annual production will represent 2.3 terawatthours (TWh), the energy required to meet the electricity needs of about 150,000 households in the province of Québec. Cartier Wind Energy is owned by TransCanada Corporation (62 per cent) and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. or Innergex Power Income Fund (38%).
