Steve Pohlod, TransCanada’s vice-president, Commercial East, Canadian Pipelines, was recently elected to the Ontario Energy Association’s Board of Directors. The announcement was made at the Annual OEA conference held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Sept. 5.

“I’m excited and honoured to be elected to the OEA board,” says Steve. “TransCanada has been an important and reliable partner in Ontario for over 50 years, and we’re proud to support the OEA and its initiatives.”

The 190-member Ontario Energy Association (OEA) is Ontario’s premier energy trade organization. The OEA represents firms involved in the transmission, distribution and marketing of natural gas, and the generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity across Ontario. OEA members together employ about 32,000 Ontarians and last year accounted for almost $35 billion in market revenues.

“Ontario’s specific energy demand requirements present many exciting opportunities for TransCanada. Gas-fired power generation represents the greatest demand growth in this market,” says Steve. “TransCanada is a significant player in this region, currently providing about 52 per cent of the gas consumed in Ontario, and we will continue to play an increasingly important role for years to come.”

TransCanada has worked extensively with power generation companies as well as local distributor companies to meet Ontario’s growing need for gas-fired power. For example, our FT-SN service is one way we add value to this market's unique demand requirements for gas. FT-SN allows shippers to better align their supply with consumption and is aimed at addressing the need of power generators to adjust their gas supply on very short notice in response to changes in electricity demand.

TransCanada’s extensive North American infrastructure is competitively positioned to access major supply basins, LNG, storage and the major trading hubs. TransCanada’s commitment to meet Ontario’s growing energy demand is highlighted by the number of gas-fired generation projects that are currently in the works or already in service.  Some of these projects are located in the Greater Toronto Area, such as Halton Hills and Portland Energy Centre.
