TransCanada Named to Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings

TransCanada has again been recognized as a leader in the energy industry. On Sept. 13, we were named to the Platts Top 250 Energy Company Rankings for 2007.

The Platts Top 250 recognizes outstanding financial performance based on asset worth, revenues, profits and return on invested capital.

This award is an indicator that we are using our strong financial position to grow our energy infrastructure business and maximize the long-term value to our shareholders.
Other North American energy companies on the list include ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Encana, Imperial Oil, Devon, Husky, Petro-Canada, Kinder Morgan, Talisman, Enbridge, and Nexen.
All ranked companies have assets greater than US $2 billion and must be publicly listed companies.
Platts is a division of McGraw-Hill. It is a global provider of energy and metals information. It covers the oil, natural gas, electricity, nuclear power, coal, petrochemical and metals markets, providing news, pricing, and analytical services.

TransCanada Receives Award for Executive Compensation Disclosure

On Sept. 9, TransCanada received the inaugural Governance Gavel Award for excellence in executive compensation disclosure from the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG).  This award recognizes TransCanada’s disclosure practices, as judged by a qualified independent third party.
In 2005, a team of TransCanada’s human resources and legal specialists made significant changes to the proxy circular, which goes to shareholders each year. Since then, we’ve continued to improve our disclosure based on lessons learned from the practices of other leading Canadian companies and from governance groups like the CCGG.

The award was based on a scored review of the executive compensation disclosure in our 2007 proxy circular.

An indicator of sound corporate governance

Corporate governance refers to the processes and mechanisms through which a business is controlled. Sound governance processes help ensure good corporate behaviour and protect the interests of shareholders and other stakeholders such as employees, suppliers and customers.
To receive such recognition from a prominent group like the CCGG, is an indicator of TransCanada’s sound governance practices.
