Canada Winter GamesWinter is just around the corner and so are the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

With just over five months to go before the start of the Games, TransCanada is gearing up to showcase our participation as a major sponsor of the event.

"TransCanada is pleased to play a lead role in supporting Canada’s finest amateur athletes, while helping to showcase the culture and tradition of the North,” says TransCanada’s President and CEO, Hal Kvisle.

This 40 year-old, multi-sport event takes place this winter in Whitehorse, Yukon from February 23 to March 10, 2007, and will be the largest event ever hosted north of the 60th parallel. More than 3,600 amateur athletes, coaches and managers from across Canada are expected to participate, with approximately 4,500 volunteers supporting 22 sporting events.

Hal Kvisle, President and CEO of TransCanada presented a cheque to Piers McDonald, President of the 2007 Winter Games Society and Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie in Calgary, March 2006.

Northern communities play a vital role in TransCanada’s business development plans.  Supporting the Games allows us to strengthen our relationship with northern communities and governments, enhance our reputation, and contribute to the economic development that will be realized through the hosting of the Games.
