More than 50 TransCanada technical experts took part in the International Pipeline Conference and Exposition, and the International Pipeline Awards in Calgary, Alberta last month. These awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the areas of operation, regulation, pipeline design and construction, technology and environmental and social responsibility.

The conference, this year themed Beyond Technology, featured events and activities focused on technology, integrity, risk, the environment and numerous other topics related to the pipeline industry. TransCanada experts were involved in 51 of the papers, which formed the basis of many of the conference technical sessions.

"The conference allowed TransCanada participants to collaborate with other pipeline technology experts and get a sense of how we might work together to face future challenges," says Paul MacGregor, Vice-President, Operations and Engineering Services. "Our goal is to build and operate our pipelines better, faster and cheaper, and tapping into the minds of other world leaders in technology allows us to take advantage of the most current and unique innovation."

As an associate sponsor of the inaugural International Pipeline Awards dinner and gala, also held during the conference, TransCanada acknowledged individuals who will lead the industry and help ensure we push forward with the most innovative and value-added technology. The sponsorship also highlighted our achievements and leadership in the development and application of pipeline technology.

"The International Pipeline Awards recognize excellence in technology development and application in our industry," says Don Wishart, Executive Vice-President, Operations and Engineering. "More importantly, the awards celebrate the achievement of our peers who introduced these new ideas to the industry - ideas which help improve the way we all do business making us safer, more environmentally responsible and more efficient for our customers."

The 2007 International Pipeline Conference and Exposition and the International Pipeline Awards take place next October in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
