John Van der Put was recently appointed to the position of Vice-President, Market Development for Canadian and Eastern U.S. Pipelines. From planning and developing new pipeline transportation services, rate design, leading the macro gas supply and market analysis functions to guiding marketing for the Canadian pipelines team, John’s diverse background provides a unique perspective on our industry which allows him to bring clarity, insight and understanding on key issues that affect customers.

"Whether it’s developing new transportation services, or analyzing the impact of key issues affecting the industry, our goal as a value-added partner is to collaborate with our customers to address these issues and provide innovative, cost-effective business solutions."

John’s career, spanning some 25 years, has taken him from California, to the North Slope of Alaska, the oilfields of Texas, to the Andes Mountains of Argentina and Chile and the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Québec. Since 2003, John was Director of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Development for TransCanada where he was the Project Director for the Cacouna Energy Project, a joint venture with Petro-Canada to build a new LNG terminal on the St. Lawrence River in Québec (the project received regulatory approval in late June). He has been with TransCanada for over 17 years, holding several leadership positions in the areas of pipeline design, engineering, operations, commercial strategy, and business development.

In recent years, John has devoted a significant amount of his time and energy to organizations that focus on human development and technological advancement. His commitment to the industry is exemplified in his four year tenure as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board of the Calgary Centre for Innovative Technology at the University of Calgary. He has served on the Governing Council of Athabasca University, the Workforce Development Committee of the Construction Owners Association of Alberta, and is currently a member of the Governing Council for the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).

John received his Chemical Engineering degree from Rice University in Houston. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta and Texas. John is also fluent in both Spanish and French.
