Global 100

TransCanada has been named to the Global 100 – a list of the world’s top 100 sustainable corporations. The Global 100 recognizes corporations that demonstrate a better ability than their industry peers to manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities. The Global 100 was selected from a list of 1,800 publicly traded companies from around the world. This is the first year we've been named to the list.

Launched in 2005, the annual Global 100 is unveiled each year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The Global 100 is a project initiated by Canadian-based Corporate Knights Inc. in partnership with Innovest Strategic Value Advisors Inc., a research firm specializing in analyzing “extra-financial drivers of risk and shareholder value”. Recognizing the importance of social, environment and governance factors on financial performance, the project identifies corporations that are industry leaders in managing those issues, an indicator of better financial performance and long-term sustainability than their competitors.

“It’s an honour to receive this recognition,” says Don Wishart, executive vice-president, Operations and Engineering. “In many respects, a key aspect of corporate responsibility is one of living up to the values that the company has as its driving force. It’s each and every employee living those values every day and the actions they take – it’s being a good neighbour, it’s being a good steward of the land, it’s maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders, and it’s running our business with the utmost integrity,” says Don.

TransCanada was one of only five Canadian companies on the list. The others are: Alcan, Enbridge, Royal Bank Financial and Sun Life Financial.

The other energy and utilities companies named to the Global 100 are: Neste Oil (Finland), Schlumberger (Netherlands), Royal Dutch Shell (UK), Iberdrola (Spain), Centrica (UK), Scottish & Southern Energy (UK), FPL Group (U.S.) and Pinnacle West Capital (U.S.).

Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

TransCanada has also been named a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) World and North America. It’s the fifth year in a row we’ve been recognized in the World index for the sustainability of our practices in areas including corporate governance, risk management, climate change, supply chain standards and labour practices. The DJSI North America was launched last year and we’ve been included in both years. The annual review of the DJSI components is based on a thorough assessment of corporate economic, environmental and social performance. TransCanada is one of 11 Canadian companies on the World index and one of 17 on DJSI North America.
