The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Natural Gas STAR Program has recognized TransCanada’s Great Lakes Gas Transmission Company (GLGT) operations for 12 years of continuing excellence in its outstanding efforts to report, measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Natural Gas STAR Program is a flexible, voluntary partnership between EPA and the oil and natural gas industry in the U.S. Under the program, EPA works with companies that produce, process, transmit and distribute natural gas to identify and implement cost-effective reductions in methane, a gas over 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.
GLGT was one of just two energy companies recognized for more than a decade of involvement in the STAR Program. To be eligible for consideration, energy partners must submit an annual report to the EPA each spring and must exhibit a high level of performance and meet other criteria used for Partners of the Year.
