In addition to his leadership role on the sales team, Steve heads up the overall marketing function which includes directing the customer satisfaction survey activities, various customer events, as well as this Update magazine.
"We, as a company, recognize the diverse needs of our customers," says Steve. "Dividing the sales and marketing activities geographically provides us with a greater focus."
Steve has carried out many roles in TransCanada and NOVA. Immediately prior to his current position, Steve was the Vice President of Western Business Development where he led pipeline business development activities in Western North America.
Following the 1998 merger of TransCanada and NOVA, Steve was Vice-President, Gathering and Processing, with the responsibility for 17 gas gathering and processing facilities. He continued to lead this business unit through divestiture following TransCanada's decision to exit the Midstream business.
Steve originally joined NOVA's emerging midstream business in 1994. He held a number of senior positions including being one of the founding members of Novagas Clearinghouse Ltd. (NCL), which was NOVA's entry into the Midstream business. Steve helped build the G&P organization from a startup operation. In this role, Steve was responsible for the identification, evaluation, and execution of opportunities in the natural gas midstream business. He specifically led the teams that developed, managed and exploited NCL's investments in Northern Alberta and Northeastern BC.
Steve also spent time in the chemical side of NOVA where he was Product Manager, Western Etheylene and Manager, Ethane Acquisition. The various responsibilities with NOVA provided Steve with the industry knowledge and the basis for understanding the diverse needs of our customers that are important to his current role.
Prior to his experience at TransCanada and NOVA, Steve's other engineering experience includes five years as a Process and Business Development Engineer with Stone and Webster and Fluor Daniel, focusing on oil refining and gas processing. Steve also spent two years with the New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council as a Project Manager responsible for the design, construction and startup of a zinc refinery.
With Steve's busy schedule, he still seems to find the time to volunteer. Steve is a member of the board of directors for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Calgary Chapter.
Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1981. He also holds an MBA from the University of Calgary, which he completed in 1992.
