We continue to feature TransCanada's leaders in the Update magazine. This month, we take a look at Dave Murray, Manager, Supply, Commercial West of the Canadian Pipelines division. There are many challenges in the current market and Dave is ready for them.
Dave is responsible for the current and new customer relationships, as well as contracts and negotiations primarily for the receipt side of the Alberta System. Please refer to the Organizational chart for further information on the Commercial West group. Past profiles are available for both Steve Clark and Dan Ronsky.
Dave brings many years of leadership experience from diverse areas of the pipeline business to his role. His extensive business knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm bring a fresh perspective to the supply team.
“With the many factors that continue to add to the challenges our customers are facing in Alberta, I believe it is important to be nimble, identify what’s critical, and adapt quickly,” says Dave. “There are many challenges and opportunities ahead of us, and I look forward to working with my team to help our customers successfully tackle them.”
In his 17 years of experience with TransCanada, Dave has worked in five distinct pipeline-related areas. His most recent role was in Regulatory Services where he oversaw the team responsible for facility applications across TransCanada’s Canadian pipelines assets. During this time he was responsible for the facility application for the Canadian portion of the Keystone Pipeline. Additional areas in which Dave has worked include manager for Corporate Strategy, and manager, Mainline Planning West, responsible for system planning for our Alberta system and related western pipelines. Dave also worked in Gas Development, the Toll Design group for the Canadian Mainline, and as a facility planning engineer on the Canadian Mainline.
“Experiencing many different roles at TransCanada has given me a broad understanding of our business," says Dave. "I believe that taking those experiences and working with the great people across our organization will help us deliver positive results for our customers and for TransCanada."
Dave has a balance of strong intellectual capability and business savvy, offering the ability to build effective collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholder groups. He brings the same approach to customer relationships.
Dave graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (BA Sc) at the University of Waterloo in 1991. After graduation, he moved from Ontario to join TransCanada in Calgary, Alberta. He enjoys the fresh air, the blue skies, the Rocky Mountains, and the simple lifestyle of the West.
