Public Outreach in Alaska

The Alaska Highway Pipeline Project proposes to move natural gas from Prudhoe Bay in northern Alaska to markets in the lower 48 states. TransCanada is taking a lead role in advancing the project; but before it can advance, agreements must be in place with the natural gas shippers.

Once the project moves forward, extensive public outreach would occur to gather community and other public input into the project prior to any construction taking place.

In the fall of 2004, TransCanada applied to secure the right-of-way through State lands for the Alaska Highway Pipeline Project. We visited many communities in Alaska to discuss our application and talk about natural gas pipelines. At present, we are awaiting a decision from the State on our right-of-way application.

The State right-of-way is an important part of TransCanada’s overall efforts to move the project closer to reality. We have already obtained the right-of-way lease for federally controlled lands in Alaska and we hold an easement and other land rights in Canada for this project.
