Community Grants

Areas of Focus

TransCanada is committed to building healthy, safe and vibrant communities where our employees live and work. As a North American energy infrastructure leader, our vision is to also become a North American community infrastructure leader

Community infrastructure is what communities need to build their future. This is the network of individuals, associations and institutions that help communities to sustain grow, and thrive such as libraries, fire stations, parks, neighbourhood associations, youth groups and more.

Funding Priorities

TransCanada’s community investments are focused on funding three key pillars:

  • Wellness – This is our opportunity to support healthy living, lifelong learning, community development and community services. With our support and assistance, we build thriving communities.
  • Safety – We support and develop tools and resources to safeguard our communities so they can thrive. First responders, emergency preparedness and prevention are key themes that guide our thinking to help identify programs or organizations to partner with.
  • Environment – By building awareness and supporting a healthy natural environment, our communities can thrive. To do that, our decision-making is guided by themes such as education, protection and restoration to select programs and organizations that enrich our natural environment.

The Important Role of Our Regions
In addition to the community grants work done to meet our corporate program, our regions play an important role in carrying out our community investment vision. Team members in our regions are responsible for the development of region specific plans that integrate Community Investment, Community Relations, Aboriginal and Tribal Relations, and the Integrated Public Awareness program. Regional Requests that come in are reviewed by the appropriate regional team members.

Keeping our Focus
TransCanada recognizes the importance of the work that the non-profit and voluntary sector does for our community; however, we are committed to staying focused on our three key funding areas (wellness, safety and environment) and are not able to fund programs and associations relating to:

  • Advertising
  • For-profit organizations
  • Religious programs
  • Political fundraisers
  • Initiatives that benefit individuals or small groups
  • Past events or projects
