Northwest Mainline Loop (Timberwolf Section)

The approved Northwest Mainline Loop is approximately 49 km of 48 inch diameter pipeline, with a maximum operating pressure of 8450 kPa. The pipeline would parallel the existing Northwest Mainline from the proposed Moody Creek Compressor Station at NW 03-109-12-W6M to a tie-in point at NW 06-104-12-W6M. The proposed pipeline route is located approximately 30 km southwest of Rainbow Lake, Alberta.


Status and Timelines

  • Began environmental and technical analysis - August 2010
  • Began Aboriginal and stakeholder engagement - August 2010
  • Began survey and environmental field studies - September 2010
  • Submitted section 52 application to the NEB - April 2011
  • Received regulatory approval - February 2012
  • Construction to start - November 2012
  • Pipelines to be in-service - April 2013
