Mackenzie Gas Project
TransCanada and the other partners involved in the Mackenzie Gas Project continue to pursue approval of the proposed project. The focus is on obtaining regulatory approval and the Canadian government's support of an acceptable fiscal framework. The NEB recently concluded the final argument hearings for the project and is expected to release its conclusions on the project's application in September 2010.
The Mackenzie Gas Project is a proposed 1,196-kilometre natural gas pipeline and gas gathering system, liquids extraction, liquids pipeline and field developments along the Mackenzie River Valley of Canada's Northwest Territories to connect northern onshore gas fields with North American markets. The proponents of the project include Imperial Oil Resources, ConocoPhillips Canada, Shell Canada Limited, ExxonMobil Canada (the Producers) and the APG.
TransCanada is providing funding for the Aboriginal Pipeline Group (APG) for the project definition phase of the Mackenzie Gas Project. The APG was formed in 2000 to represent the ownership interest of the Aboriginal peoples of the Northwest Territories in the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project. In exchange for this funding, TransCanada earns a number of acquisition and expansion rights together with a financial return if the project goes ahead.
On June 18, 2003 Imperial Oil Resources, on behalf of the Producers Group, announced TransCanada's involvement in Mackenzie Gas Project. If development of this pipeline goes ahead, it would connect with TransCanada's system in Northern Alberta.
